On Thursday, April 7, the final challenge of the “Martian Robots” educational project took place. The 12 participating Cycle 2 classes received a sealed envelope containing their mission. The goal of these missions? To move a miniature version of the Perseverance rover across a game board depicting the Martian landscape in 45 minutes. Each class proposed a trajectory that took into account the constraints imposed on the Martian site to be explored.

The students present their work
Friday, April 8 was debriefing day for the nine classes that were able to visit Cité de l’Espace. The students presented the results of their efforts to the other classes and watched live as the rover moved across Mars along the trajectory they had imagined! They then discovered the new Martian Terrain at Cité de l’espace and its animation, “The Rovers Take the Stage!” accompanied by their mentor Agnes Cousin, Astronomer at IRAP – Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie.
This project is being carried out in partnership with MGEN, the Toulouse Academy, the Toulouse Academy’s academic delegation for artistic and cultural education, CNES, and ESERO France with the aim of raising students’ awareness of computer programming and robotics in the context of true Martian missions.
